“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world -- our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”

Discuss the song by asking:
What battle did Jesus already win?
Why is that important for us?

Joshua 10-11
When the Israelites feld from Egypt, Pharaoh and his army chased them to the edge of the Red Sea. The Israelites were terrified, but Moses said, “The LORD will fight for you, and you must be quiet” (Ex. 14:14). The Lord proved His faithfulness by parting the sea ans destroying the Egyptians. The Lord fought for Israel again at Jericho and Ai. Each time the Lord was faithful to His Word, for the good of His people and to show His glory. In our story today, we are again reminded of God’s faithfulness as He fought for His people. Joshua prayed for help and God confused the armies, sent hailstorms, and made the sun stand still for them. Joshua conquered six more cities and defeated the armies of the Northern kings.
Why did God defeat the armies for Joshua and the Israelites?
He was keeping his promise to give them the land.
What are some promises that God gives us? Which do you look forward to?
Practice this with your kids.
We are using our prayer time to get ready for Reach Spearfish. You can join us by praying for boldness to share the Gospel and for God to get ready the hearts of those people that hear it.
Other Ideas
Main Point: God’s children can have confidence.
Point 1: Have confidence that you are saved.
John tells us that the purpose of writing the letter is to build our confidence that we have eternal life because of Jesus.
Point 2: Have confidence that He hears your prayers.
Since we are saved by Jesus, He hears us and answers prayers. So, we should pray for others to not continue in sins.
Point 3: Have confidence in God’s Son.
We know that Jesus is the “true one” that saves us and gives us life. We should not leave Jesus for other things.
To-Do 1: Don’t stop believing.
Sometimes “new” things sound true because they're different. But hold on to Jesus. Remember that He is the true one.
To-Do 2: Pray so others don’t stop believing.
Sometimes people who commit a sin for a long time leave Jesus, so pray for friends to stop their sins before that happens.
